DelGrosso's Amusement Park
DelGrosso's
Amusement Park is located just off I-99 (previously route
220) in Tipton, PA which is north of Altoona,
PA Parking is free. The DelGrosso family purchased the
park in 1946 and has maintained it as one of the most well
keep parks in america. Admission to the park is free, tickets
are sold for individual rides so you only have to pay for
what you ride. There is also the option of buying a All-Day
pass or a season pass.
DelGrosso amusement park has 27 rides, 12 of
which are for young kids. There is also a great water park
and a miniature golf course. I recommend going to the park
early. The waterpark opens 2 hours before the rest of the
park so start there. If you are visiting the park for the
first time make sure you have a full day. The park is known
for its great food. All the food is homemade at the park,
make sure you try there famous potato salad.
While the park looks almost new, it actually
dates back to just after the turn of the century. At first
a carnival operated on the property but by 1919 it had become
a park. The Bland family sold the park in 1928 to George Rinard
who added more rides, a skating rink and a bowling alley.
In 1946, the park was bought by the DelGrosso family who still
own and care for it. They have continuously improved and added
rides to the park and brought it up to the quality it is at
today. In 2001, they changed the name from Bland's Park to
DelGrosso's Amusement Park.
